Music Ursuline
Ursuline Academy is very proud of the music department and all of
its achievments. The extra curriculars are madrigals and show choir.
Practice for madrigals extend from September through December,
ending with the Madrigal dinners.
Show choir practices from September through April which ends
with competitions in the Spring. Both of these groups have won
many awards, and are well known in the Springfield area. They also
preform for many civic organizations and schools. There is also a
musical held in the Spring.
Piano Lab
A course which is designed for those with no prior exposure to the
piano, this class will be a classroom setting limited to eight
students. Daily practice in piano with practice keyboards under
guidance of an instructor will be combined with lessons in music
theory and ear training. Intermediate piano players will be accepted
if numbers permit.
Concert Choir
This ensemble is designed for the serious music Student. Participants will be
exposesd to a variety of music of greater difficulty than encountered in mixed
choir repertoire. Two concerts will be offered during the year and other
possibilities for performance will be provided.
Music Appreciation
This class introduces the student to music through working with the elements of
music. It also instills appreciation of the various periods of music by listening to
and studying the composer and styles of music. At the end of the course the
student should be able to recognize instruments by sight and sound, and
recognize many famous composers.
Drama
This course is designed for those who have an interest in the
performing arts. Students, through performance and practical
applications, will learn the basics of dramtic technique. Both the
technical and creative aspects of theatre will be examined. (i.e.
improvisations, characterizations, stage movement, set construction,
costuming, production of school plays, et cetera).
